We've done the Hierve al aqua + mezcal distillery tour with Leon and can't recommend it enough. For starters I'm grateful this option exists - we specifically wanted to only do these two activities and avoid the potentially rushed multistop tours. Leon is a great guide with plenty of info to share about every tour aspect and an answer to every question no matter how daft 🙂 the distillery tour was terrific and ended in a mess, for which extra thanks go to the distillery host for presiding over and to the driver for getting us back to town!
I did two tours with Oaxaca by Locals and both exceeded my expectations
First, I joined the food tour, which was very interesting. The food was excellent (honestly, all of the food we've tried, I wouldn't have known about it by myself) and every stop came with great explanations about the dishes and local culture
I also did the Hierve el Agua tour with our guide Leon, and honestly it was one of the highlights of my time in Oaxaca. As a solo traveler, it was a great experience because I got to meet a lot of friendly people in the group. We also made extra stops along the way, including the famous widest tree in the world and a bakery, which made the trip feel more complete without making the day feel rushed.
Leon was a fantastic guide. He was friendly, informative, and really good at creating a fun atmosphere on the bus, it felt like traveling with a friend.
The mezcal tour was probably my personal highlight. I didn’t expect it to be that entertaining. The explanation about mezcal production was super interesting, and the local guide was hilarious and very engaging. The tasting was also extremely generous. Lot's of mezcal was drunk, all i can say 😆

Our guides for both tours guides were extremely knowledgeable about the historical aspect of the sites we visited and information about the local artists.

The free Jalatlaco Street Art tour was wonderful. In just two hours we not only explored the murals and lithographs and even a few shops, we also learned the history and meaning behind alot of the art. Our guide was wonderful too -- unfortunately with so much new info in my brain I cannot remember her name but she was engaging and informative!
Ayer hicimos el tour de todo el dia de Hierve el agua y Mitla. Nos encantó, también el taller de los artesanos y la cata de mezcal al final. Recomendaremos el tour sin ningunda duda. Nuestro guía Kevin inmejorable, informado y amenizando los traslados en todo momento, todo el grupo se implicó y fue un día perfecto.
